Arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). For people coming from the United States, this typically means a late Friday night departure. We will provide three shuttle times throughout the day Sunday (11am, 1pm, 6pm) so you can plan your flight accordingly. Day 1 will just be settling into the hotel in Ubud and all getting dinner together as a group.
We will start the day with sunrise in the nearby rice terraces, followed by a visit to a famous temple in Bali. We will also spend part of the afternoon participating in a cooking class.
This will be one of the earlier mornings of the trip as we head to a beautiful lakeside temple for sunrise. After the temple, we will get breakfast and head to two of our favorite waterfalls in Bali. The first waterfall is right by the parking lot, and the other requires a 15-20 minute walk down quite a few stairs. As with any hike on this trip, you always have the option to sit it out. There are mini restaurants at the start of the stairs, so you can just relax and enjoy a cold drink or food if you'd like instead. In the afternoon, we will visit the famous market in Ubud.
You can either sleep in this morning or do a short sunrise walk in Ubud. After breakfast, we will pack up and head to the island of Nusa Penida. Sunset will be at the most beautiful beach you have ever seen. You can go down to the beach, but it is quite the journey on extremely steep stairs. You also have the option to relax at the top at one of the restaurants instead.
This is our big ocean day as we head out on a snorkeling/diving trip in the waters around Nusa Penida. In the afternoon, we will head to one of our favorite bays to relax at the beach and hang out until sunset.
This is an early morning day as we venture to the other side of Nusa Penida for a spectacular sunrise and visit to our second favorite beach on the island. This one has much easier stairs down to it but that trip is still optional. The entire morning is also optional if you’d rather have a slow morning at the hotel as we’ll be coming back to the hotel to check out and then transfer over to Canggu, our final location of the trip. We will end the day here by relaxing on the beach at sunset.
We will start the day with a sunrise excursion to maybe the most famous temple in Bali. This place gets super busy later in the day so we always like going early to avoid the crowds. On the way back to Canggu, we will stop at another temple. The rest of the day is just about relaxing and enjoying our last full day together in Bali. Try surfing if you like, get a massage, do some shopping, eat great food, etc.
The trip has come to an end. We will arrange transportation for you to the airport if you are departing Bali this day. If you choose to stick around you are free to take off anytime this day. If you have a later flight on Sunday, we will just be hanging around the Canggu area, relaxing at the beach, surfing, shopping, eating, getting massages, etc.
Priya and Michael have been traveling together for over two years now. They love to try new foods, experience new things and push past their comfort zones.
Michael has traveled all his life, as a child his family went on various road trips and adventures which inevitably engraved a sense of adventure in him.
Priya started traveling at the age of 22. Her family made the move to America when she was 8 years old. When Priya's thirst for adventure increased so did the stamps in her passport.
A: Everyone will be flying into Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Please make sure to book the correct days, noting the big time change if flying from the United States. To arrive on Sunday, May 26, you will most likely need to depart on Friday night. Once you book your flight, please send that information to Priya, and we will add you to the shuttle pickup. We have shuttles planned for 11 am, 1 pm, and 6 pm but may adjust these accordingly.
A: We will be sending a detailed itinerary to you two weeks before the trip, along with a link to a group chat on WhatsApp as well. You can join this if you like and start exchanging information with others on the trip to see if you are on the same flights. When you arrive in Bali, you may meet others at the airport, but regardless, one of us will be right outside customs to greet you when you arrive. Everyone will meet up for the first dinner that night.
A: A detailed itinerary will be provided two weeks before the trip.
A: This is a group trip, but not everything has to be done together. There will be plenty of time to do your own thing and explore solo or with the friends you made on the trip. Please remember that any expenses you incur outside of the trip are not covered in your payment.
A: We will have private drivers to take us to our locations each day. We will be in cars that have air conditioning.
A: No. If you feel like sleeping in one morning or opting out of a hike, you are more than welcome to do that. There will be something else you can do nearby should you choose to sit out an activity. You are also free to venture out for yourself. Just note that your activities when not with the group are not covered.
A: AMAZING! Bali has tons of different kinds of food options. When you fill out the “tell me about yourself” form, please list out any kind of food allergies you have.
A: We highly suggest you get travel health insurance to cover any medical/lost bills you might encounter. If you get sick during the trip, a team lead will stay with you to ensure you are safe and taken care of, and you may rejoin the group when you feel ready.
A: We suggest you have travel insurance to help with any unforeseen costs. Should an injury occur there will be a teammate to help you recover and still have an enjoyable experience.
A: Each participant needs to adhere to the country's rules on vaccinations at the time of trip.
A: If a trip gets postponed, you will get a full refund for the price of the trip. Any additional expenses such as flights, would be on your own responsibility to get refunded.
A: We suggest you wait until the trip is confirmed to purchase tickets. However, we do understand that deals are best the earlier you buy. Should you choose to buy your ticket before the trip is confirmed and the trip is canceled then we are not responsible for cancellation fees. If you prefer to purchase tickets as soon as possible, we suggest purchasing with a free cancellation option.
A: No, the cost of all airfare is not included in the booking. You are responsible for your own flight to Bali. Any transportation while on the trip is covered.
A: The $800 deposit is due at the time of booking.
The remaining balance is due 30 days before the trip start date. Failure to pay the final balance or cancel the trip will result in your spot and deposit being forfeited. The $800 deposit is a firm commitment to going on the trip. Should you need to cancel for whatever reason, you will be subject to the following cancellation fees.
Up to 90 days from trip start date: $300 fee ($500 back of your deposit)
Up to 60 days from trip start date: $500 fee ($300 back of your deposit)
Up to 30 days from trip start date: $800 fee (the full deposit is subject fee)
A: There needs to be a minimum of 6 participants for the trip to run.
A: Unfortunately this is not something we offer right now.
A: You will have your own room in a well-reviewed hotel. Should you wish to share a room with someone, you can let us know, and the two of you will receive a lodging discount.
A: You will be responsible for arranging your own visa or travel documents should you need them. Most countries, including the United States, can get in with a Visa on Arrival. This is done once you land in Bali and costs around $35. Also, make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months past your arrival date into Bali.
A: The risk of whether or not to get insurance is up to you. We would recommend getting it though and suggest World Nomads Travel Insurance.
A: You will get a detailed packing list along with the itinerary. But a few essentials are warm-weather clothes, good walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen
A: You will have some free time throughout your time in Bali so in theory you could do laundry at a nearby place. You would drop the laundry off at a place, and then pick it up the next day so you would need to time it right so that it is done before we leave that area.
A: All of the hotels we stay at will have outlets for you to charge whatever you need. Just note the voltage and plug types:
Voltage: 230 V.
Frequency: 50 Hz.
Power sockets: type C / F.
A: We strongly suggest bringing your camera. There will be plenty of opportunities to take great photos, and you will have access to Michael to ask him any photography questions throughout the trip. But this is not specifically a photography workshop trip. The main focus of this trip is to explore Bali and push a few boundaries while we are out there. There will also be time to edit photos together at our hotels and learn some of Michael’s editing techniques.
A: I would suggest a wide angle lens to capture the vast landscapes of Bali, from the waterfalls to the rice terraces and beaches, there will be many spots where you will want to shoot wide. Having a quality polarizing filter would be very helpful on this trip to cut down on glare in water. You could also bring some sort of underwater setup like a go pro if you want to capture photos on the snorkeling/diving day. If you want a detailed list of allt he gear we use please head over to “whats in our bag” blog post.
A: Yes, you may bring a drone. We just ask that you be aware of your surroundings and be respectful of people around you. There will definitely be some amazing spots for you to fly your drone, but there will be a few areas where you are not allowed to fly as well (the temples).
